It has become increasingly evident that God is doing a surprising work in missions here at Grace. We may be on the smaller side as a church body, but that doesn't limit us from having a larger-than-normal vision for the world. This is because of the extraordinary need for the gospel around the globe that we cannot ignore. God seems to be using GCC as a training ground to send "shock troops" around the planet to proclaim the truth in a world careening toward the coming judgment.
YUGO - Youth Unlimited Gospel Outreach
Kathy Baziuk, a graduate of Talbot Theological Seminary, has led a number of expeditions to Mexico with YUGO. These missions challenge a team of high school and college aged youth with in-depth exposure to another culture in order to:
reach Mexican children with the gospel
teach Mexican adults to win their own children
challenge Americans and Canadians to get involved with missions
This is not just another "camping experience." Many young people have been trained to serve and not to just have a good time, though they certainly do! They witness the difference Christ can make in the lives of people who struggle under harsh physical and economic conditions every day of their lives. It is a joy to see how much they have grown, how deeply they are affected and how much their attitudes have changed as a result of their service.
CCC - Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU) - Jesus Film
John D., one of Pastor Phil's past disciples from Cal State University, Northridge, has led a number of teams to Africa, reaching thousands with the gospel by simply showing The Jesus Film. We have had one of our own join him on a couple of missions to some of the far outposts of the Pokot people in Kenya.
BLF - Bibles and Literature in French
Recently a team from GCC went to Northern France to minister in a print shop with BLF. Not only did they provide significant input in making it possible to get critical materials to the French people, but they also helped do some outreach for a church in Valenciennes where they canvassed a large part of the city with the Gospel of Luke.
Annie Baziuk, who was with them on that mission, is spending a year full-time in Marpant, France to offer her services to the print shop and to help encourage the small church in Feignies, France.
ITEM - International Training and Equipping Ministries
In recent years Pastor Phil has joined with one of his seminary buddies, Dr. Steve Van Horn, to help impact pastors and churches in Africa with ITEM. He has made two trips to Africa (2008 and 2010) where he held four Truth Crusades in four different countries. Steve teaches pastors during the day and Phil preaches at night. It's a team effort -- going into a city and sharing the gospel according to Jesus to combat the plethora of false teaching that is going on throughout the African continent.
MAF - Mission Aviation Fellowship
MAF provides transportation services to missions and missionaries throughout the world. They use their aircraft to fly needed supplies to remote and often dangerous areas in the world to serve those who are reaching people with the gospel of Christ.
